Stanford University’s third varsity eight (3V8) men’s rowing team earned recognition as the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Crew of the Week for the second time this season, according to an April 8 announcement.

The honor comes after Stanford’s 3V8 secured two victories at the California Classic, defeating No. 21 Oregon State and No. 15 Wisconsin. The team’s performance is notable as it marks their first regular competition since 2019.

Against Oregon State, Stanford finished with a time of 5:54.5 compared to Oregon State’s 6:11.2. In their race against Wisconsin, Stanford posted a time of 5:46.6, which was not only a win over Wisconsin’s time of 6:04.2 but also represented the fastest third varsity eight time at an event that included Cal and Santa Clara.

The lineup for both races featured coxswain Ginger Bernstein and rowers Maxim Ericson, Charlie Vachris, Christopher Muehl, Andrew Orio, Barron Celli, John Salvi, and Jack Griffin in the Oregon State race; Jacob Rivera and Leopold Hainlein replaced Griffin in seats two and one respectively for the Wisconsin race.

The achievement highlights Stanford’s depth in its rowing program during a season where crews are returning to regular competition schedules.
