No. 2 Stanford achieved the highest team score in the nation this season, recording a 326.450 to secure first place at the Stanford Open on Saturday night. The competition saw No. 6 Ohio State finish second with a score of 318.050, and No. 7 California take third with 313.950 points.
Stanford dominated the event by winning six out of seven categories during the meet.
Asher Hong made his return to collegiate gymnastics by winning two events, including an all-around score of 80.300. Hong, who has previously won two NCAA championships on still rings, claimed that event title again with a routine scoring 14.450. He also placed second on parallel bars with a score of 14.050 and finished third on vault with a 14.400.
Nick Kuebler continued his strong senior season by finishing in the top two for each of his three events. Kuebler set a personal best with a 14.600 on high bar and won floor exercise with a score of 13.950, marking his fourth and fifth event titles this season for Stanford. He also earned second place on still rings with a score of 14.000.
Cooper Kim matched Kuebler’s high bar performance, also scoring a career-best 14.600 to share the event title, and added a season-best vault routine at 14.350 for fourth place in that category.
Marcus Kushner contributed to Stanford’s success by winning pommel horse with a score of 13.700.
Other notable performances included Reece Landsperger finishing third on still rings (13.800) and Arun Chhetri tying for third place on parallel bars (13.950).
Several Stanford athletes competed unattached at the meet as well: David Shamah finished third in the all-around (78.750), highlighted by leading all competitors on parallel bars with a score of 14.200; Jun Iwai took second place on vault (14.450); Xander Hong finished fourth in the all-around (72.250).
Stanford will not compete next week but is scheduled to face Team Canada at Elite Canada on February 6.
