Stanford men’s gymnastics finishes second at Rocky Mountain Open

Stanford University’s men’s gymnastics team placed second at the Rocky Mountain Open in Colorado Springs, finishing with a total score of 320.750. The event saw Stanford win five out of seven events but fall short to Oklahoma, who secured first place with a score of 323.950. Nebraska and Air Force followed in third and fourth places, scoring 311.500 and 302.100 respectively.

David Shamah led the Cardinal by winning two events, including sharing the parallel bars title with a personal best routine that scored 14.500 points. He also topped the all-around competition with a score of 79.700 and finished fifth on pommel horse with 13.800 points. As a result of his performance, Shamah qualified for next month’s Winter Cup.

Nick Kuebler continued his strong season by winning the high bar title after achieving a score of 14.000. Kuebler also earned second place on floor exercise (13.950) and still rings (14.050).

Wade Nelson won the vault event for the second consecutive time this season, posting a score of 14.150, while teammates Toma Murakawa and Jun Iwai tied for second in vault with scores of 14.100 each.

Reece Landsperger claimed his first career event victory for Stanford by winning still rings with a personal best routine that scored 14.100.

Stanford is scheduled to return to competition at Burnham Pavilion as it hosts the Stanford Open on January 24 at 7 p.m.
