Stanford University’s women’s golf team began its spring season at the Arizona Thunderbird Intercollegiate, held at Tucson Country Club and hosted by the University of Arizona. After 36 holes, Stanford led the field as the only team to finish under par, recording a score of 3-under.
The event saw temperatures in the low 80s, which was warmer than earlier in the week. The course featured small, undulating greens and unpredictable bounces, contributing to higher scores for most competitors. Only six golfers managed to finish under par after two rounds, with just eleven at par or better.
Stanford faced competition from two other top-25 programs: Baylor finished second at 9-over, twelve strokes behind Stanford, while Arizona took third place at 11-over.
Andrea Revuelta led all players on Monday despite not being part of Stanford’s official lineup. She posted a 6-under 66 in her opening round—the only bogey-free round among Cardinal players that day—and continued strong play to finish with a total of 9-under (135), giving her a five-stroke lead entering the final round. Revuelta is aiming for her third collegiate win and first non-postseason victory after winning last year’s ACC Championship and NCAA Norman Regional.
Paula Martín Sampedro followed closely behind Revuelta on the leaderboard. Sampedro finished her first round with a 4-under 68 after recovering from an early setback using five birdies over her final twelve holes. She played even-par in her second round and is tied for second place at 4-under heading into Tuesday’s final round.
Anna Song earned a spot in Stanford’s official lineup for the first time in her collegiate career. The freshman from Los Angeles recorded a 1-over 73 followed by a 1-under 71, finishing even through two rounds and tying for seventh place overall after closing out her day with three birdies on the back nine.
Kelly Xu also tied for seventh with consecutive even-par rounds of 72. Meja Örtengren and Megha Ganne are tied for thirteenth place at two-over but both ended their days with scores of one-under-par.
The tournament concludes on Tuesday, February 10th with another shotgun start scheduled for 7:30 a.m. Pacific Time. If Stanford secures victory, it would be its third straight stroke-play tournament win this season; if Revuelta maintains her lead, she would become Stanford’s third different individual winner during the current campaign.
