Stanford University men’s golf team members Ethan Gao and Nathan Wang have been named NCAA Division I Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars, according to an announcement from the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) on Tuesday. This marks the first time since 2019 that Stanford has had players receive this academic honor.
Gao and Wang are among 556 Division I athletes selected for the award, representing one of 190 DI programs recognized by the GCAA. To qualify for nomination as a Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar, student-athletes must be sophomores, juniors, or seniors academically and athletically in NCAA Division I, II, III, or NAIA programs. Those receiving their associate’s degree in their final year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA are also eligible.
Nominees must have participated in at least half of their team’s competitive rounds during the season and maintained a stroke average below 76.0 in NCAA Division I competition. In addition to athletic performance, candidates are required to hold a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. Recipients must also demonstrate high moral character and remain in good standing with their institution.
