Stanford University announced on Apr. 9 that Saturday’s spring football practice scheduled for Kezar Stadium in San Francisco has been canceled because of expected inclement weather. The team will instead conduct a regular Saturday practice at the Dan Elliott Practice Fields on Stanford’s campus from 9 to 10:30 a.m.

The cancellation comes as a weather system is forecasted to bring rain and wind across the greater Bay Area starting Friday and continuing through the weekend. Officials cited increased risks to player safety as the primary reason for moving the event.

Ten spring practices remain for Stanford football, which is currently led by first-year Bradford M. Freeman Director of Football, Tavita Pritchard. The university said that fans can find updates and coverage about spring football activities at SPRING BALL CENTRAL.

The decision reflects ongoing efforts by athletic departments nationwide to prioritize athlete safety during severe weather events.

Further updates regarding future practices or schedule changes are expected as conditions develop.
