Stanford won the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional Second Round Session I on April 2, defeating Michigan, North Carolina, and Utah State at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. The Cardinal finished with a team score of 197.175, outpacing Michigan (196.600), North Carolina (196.250), and Utah State (195.750).
This victory marks Stanford’s first regional semifinal win since the NCAA adopted its current three-round format in 2019. The team’s performance was highlighted by freshman Ana Bărbosu, who claimed the all-around title with a career-best score of 39.575 and earned top marks on both balance beam (9.925) and floor exercise (9.950). Senior Taralyn Nguyen secured the vault title with a score of 9.950, while senior Anna Roberts won uneven bars with a 9.900.
Stanford began the meet on vault, led by Nguyen’s anchor routine that scored a meet-high for that apparatus. Bărbosu contributed early in the lineup with strong performances throughout all rotations.
After tying for first place following one rotation alongside Utah State and North Carolina, Stanford moved to bars where Roberts led with her winning routine while teammates Jung-Ruivivar, Sorrento, and Robinson each added solid scores.
The Cardinal regained their lead after three rotations thanks to strong showings on beam from Bărbosu and junior Temple Landry before finishing strongest on floor exercise—earning a session-best team total of 49.550—with Walker joining Bărbosu at the top of individual scoring for that event.
With this result, Stanford advances to compete in Saturday’s NCAA Regional Final along with Michigan and two additional teams from Session II: LSU, Clemson, Auburn or Nebraska. The top two teams from Saturday’s final will move forward to compete in the NCAA Championships semifinals scheduled for April 16.
