Six members of the Stanford men’s gymnastics team were named to the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) all-conference team, according to an announcement from the MPSF office on April 6.
The recognition highlights the performances of Stanford gymnasts at the recent MPSF Championships. The top gymnast from each school in every event earned automatic all-conference honors, with one additional at-large selection per event based on scores.
Asher Hong led Stanford with three all-conference honors. Hong, who was also named MPSF Gymnast of the Year, won his third consecutive still rings title with a season-best score of 14.550. He also placed third on parallel bars and fourth on vault. Nick Kuebler received two selections after finishing second on still rings and third on floor exercise; he was recognized as MPSF Specialist of the Year.
Other Cardinal athletes earning honors included Cooper Kim, who claimed his first all-conference nod by winning floor exercise with a score of 14.400. David Shamah (parallel bars) and Jun Iwai (high bar) both finished as runners-up in their events, while Marcus Pietarinen posted a score of 13.300 on pommel horse as Stanford’s top performer in that event.
Stanford will conclude its season at the NCAA Championships scheduled for April 17-18 in Champaign, Illinois, where it will compete for what could be its eleventh national title.
