Seven current and former members of the Stanford women’s rowing program are set to compete at the 2025 Senior World Rowing Championships in Shanghai, China, from September 21 to 28. The event will feature athletes from 56 nations.
The group includes Luise Bachmann (class of 2025), Esther Briz Zamorano (class of 2022), Azja Czajkowski (class of 2023), Célia Dupré (class of 2027), Kaitlyn Kynast (class of 2022), Beckie Leigh (class of 2024), and Sarah Marriott (class of 2027).
Two current student-athletes, Sarah Marriott and Célia Dupré, have been selected to represent their home countries. Both were part of the Stanford team that won its second NCAA team title in three seasons in 2025. Dupré, who competed for Switzerland at the 2024 Olympics in the Women’s Quadruple Sculls, will race for Switzerland in both the Women’s Pair and Mixed Doubles events. Marriott has been named as a spare for the Australian National Team.
Five former Stanford rowers will also participate. Three were members of the squad that secured Stanford’s first NCAA team title since 2009 in 2023. Bachmann will compete for Germany in both the women’s and mixed eights. Czajkowski is set to race for Team USA in the women’s straight four and mixed eight crews, while Leigh will represent New Zealand in both events.
Zamorano and Kynast, both from the class of 2022, are scheduled to race for Spain’s women’s single and Team USA’s women’s eight, respectively. Both athletes contributed to runner-up finishes at the NCAA Championship regatta with Stanford in 2021 and 2022.
Racing begins on Sunday, September 21 with preliminary heats starting at 10:19 a.m. local time. More information is available at WorldRowing.com.
