SANTA CLARA, Calif. — Caden Wooster, a right-handed reliever from Santa Clara baseball, has signed an undrafted free agent contract with the New York Mets organization. Wooster played for the Broncos from 2023 to 2025.
During his junior season in 2025, Wooster was the team’s primary closer, achieving four saves and making 18 relief appearances. He struck out 29 batters over 27 1/3 innings while limiting opponents to a .225 batting average. Notable performances included shutout efforts against California, No. 12 Texas, and Stanford, as well as consecutive saves against Pepperdine and Gonzaga. His season concluded with a record of 1-3, a 7.24 ERA, and 29 strikeouts compared to 15 walks.
Santa Clara’s baseball program has developed several pitchers for professional leagues under head coach Rusty Filter since he took charge in 2018. Among them are Skylar Hales (Texas Rangers), Blake Hammond (Athletics), and Nick Sando (Cincinnati Reds).
Wooster’s three-year career at Santa Clara saw him make 39 appearances with one start, achieving a record of 3-4 with five saves. He recorded 51 strikeouts across 52 innings and received West Coast Conference All-Academic Honorable Mention honors twice in addition to being on the WCC Commissioner’s Honor Roll.
In his sophomore year in 2024, Wooster made the most relief appearances by any non-starting Broncos pitcher with a record of 1-1 and posted twelve strikeouts over thirteen innings. During his freshman year in 2023, he had one start where he pitched five shutout innings against Cal and ended the season with a record of 1-0 and a ERA of 3.18.
Wooster hails from Oakland, California, graduating from Bishop O’Dowd High School where he was recognized as a Baseball Factory Preseason All-American three times.
