Santa Clara women’s tennis defeated Pacific 4-3 in a West Coast Conference match on Apr. 13 at the Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center.
The victory was decided when Daniella Dimitrova clinched the match for Santa Clara, making the score 4-2. Juliette Krumholz contributed with wins in both doubles and singles, helping secure the team’s overall success.
With the team score tied at two apiece, Santa Clara (6-13, 2-4 WCC) pulled ahead thanks to three-set singles victories from Krumholz and Dimitrova. Krumholz overcame a first-set loss to defeat Maggie Hoe on court six by scores of 4-6, 6-3, 6-3. Shortly after, Dimitrova also rallied after dropping her opening set to beat Milena Maiorova atop the singles lineup with scores of 2-6, 6-4, 6-2.
Pacific (6-13, 2-4 WCC) started strong by winning two doubles matches. Leyanne Hirota and Cindy Ung secured the doubles point against Tian Yu Dong and Ashley Katz with a close score of 7-5 on court one. In singles play, Katz recorded a double bagel win over Nahreen Cheam to even the team score at one each. Anna Rahman then gave Santa Clara a lead with her straight set victory against Ung on court three.
Rayna Sugai brought Pacific level again by defeating Tian Yu Dong before Santa Clara’s decisive wins sealed their triumph. The final match was played out after Dimistrova’s clincher, with Indiya McLeod taking a win for Pacific for a final margin of 4–3.
Santa Clara will next play at Saint Mary’s on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m.
