Santa Clara women’s tennis lost to No. 72 Sacramento State by a score of 5-2 in a makeup match played on April 7.
The outcome was decided after Sacramento State secured the doubles point and won the first three singles matches. This result brings Santa Clara’s season record to 5-13, while Sacramento State improves to 15-5.
Palina Saulevich clinched the victory for Sacramento State by defeating Madhu Satishbabu 6-2, 6-4 on court six, making the team score 4-0 at that point. The remaining matches were completed, with Santa Clara earning two wins: Juliette Krumholz beat Emilija Pranyte in three sets (3-6, 6-0, 6-4) on court five and Daniella Dimitrova defeated Reese Walker (5-7, 6-1, 6-4) on court one. Dimitrova also partnered with Anna Rahman for a doubles win over Lou Baudouin and Pranyte (6-3), but this was not enough for Santa Clara to take the doubles point.
Sacramento State players Saulevich, Irene Riva, Cami Maldonado and Walker each contributed victories in both singles and doubles play. The order of finish saw Santa Clara trailing early as Sacramento State took quick wins at singles positions two and three before sealing the match at position six.
The Broncos will next compete against Pacific in a West Coast Conference contest scheduled for Saturday.
