Santa Clara women’s tennis lost 6-1 to Loyola Marymount University (LMU) in a West Coast Conference match on April 3 at the Degheri Tennis Center.
The result marks Santa Clara’s fourth conference loss of the season, while LMU secured its fourth win in league play. The outcome affects both teams’ standings as they move further into the conference schedule.
Santa Clara began strongly in doubles, with Lizanne Boyer and Juliette Krumholz defeating Lidia Gonzalez and Camilia Samel-Druz 6-1 on court three. However, LMU rallied to win the next two doubles matches. Anastasia Bozova and Ada Piestrzynska overcame Tian Yu Dong and Ashley Katz 6-4, while Helene Schnack and Kim-Michaela Zahraj clinched the doubles point for LMU with a narrow 7-5 victory over Daniella Dimitrova and Anna Rahman.
In singles play, LMU continued its momentum by winning five of six matches. Zahraj’s straight-set win over Rahman on court three sealed the team victory for LMU at 4-0. The Broncos’ only point came from Dimitrova, who won a three-set battle against Gonzalez at the top of the lineup: 7-6 (7-1), 0-6, 1-0 (11-9). Boyer had an opportunity to add another point but fell in three sets to Piestrzynska on court two.
The Broncos now hold a record of five wins and twelve losses overall, with one win and four losses in conference play. Their next match is scheduled against Sacramento State on Tuesday as a makeup from an earlier postponement.
