Santa Clara University’s women’s volleyball team ended a three-match losing streak by defeating Washington State in straight sets on Wednesday night. The Broncos’ victory marked their 11th conference win of the season, which is their highest total since achieving 13 wins in 2015.
Cate Shanahan led Santa Clara with 18 kills, marking her 18th match this season reaching double figures in kills. Macy Hinshaw contributed 35 assists and 11 digs, recording her 12th double-double of the year. Lexi Trapani added 18 digs, her 24th match this season with at least ten digs.
The first set saw Santa Clara take an early lead after a kill from Morgan Hayes and a service ace by Ashlynn Reilly, eventually winning the set 25-14. In the second set, Washington State initially led but Santa Clara responded with consecutive points, including another ace from Reilly. The teams were tied at several points before Santa Clara secured the set 25-22 with a kill from Selin Aslayan. The Broncos maintained control in the third set and closed out the match with a final score of 25-17.
With this win, Santa Clara improved its record to 16-12 overall and 11-6 in conference play. The team also improved its all-time record against Washington State to five wins and eight losses.

The Broncos will conclude their regular season on Saturday against Seattle University. The match will include senior day celebrations for Amy Veargason and Layla Truitt. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m., and tickets are available for purchase online.
