Santa Clara women’s track earns multiple top-five finishes at Spokane meets

Sydney Lim and Sarah Guralnick led the Santa Clara University women’s track team to several top-five finishes during two meets held at The Podium in Spokane, Washington, over the weekend.

Lim achieved the team’s highest placement by finishing second in the 800 meters at the Spokane Sports Showcase with a time of 2:17.95. Sigrid Brakenhielm also placed in the top five for Santa Clara, securing fifth place in the same event with a time of 2:25.51.

In the 3,000 meters, Guralnick earned third place with a time of 10:09.15. Teammates Ramneek Kaur and Isabella Gonzalez finished seventh and tenth respectively.

Santa Clara’s performance continued in the distance medley relay (DMR) at the Spokane Indoor Challenge. The ‘A’ squad—composed of Lim, Aliyah Yearian, Grace Winkler, and Guralnick—placed fifth with a time of 12:42.08. The Broncos also entered ‘B’ and ‘C’ teams in this event, which finished seventh and eighth.

Additional results from Friday’s events included Aliyah Yearian finishing seventh in the mile (5:19.99), Kaylee Volner placing ninth (5:20.52), Kiera Kime eleventh (5:24.96), Alyssa Wyatt seventeenth (5:29.65), Rachel Cormier twentieth (5:39.74), Mariah Aragon twenty-first (5:42.57), while Sophie Smithstanza did not finish.

Other competitors for Santa Clara in the 800 meters were Grace Winkler who took sixth place (2:28.78) and Celia Steiger who finished seventh (2:33.21).

The DMR saw Santa Clara’s ‘B’ team—Kaur, Wyatt, Brakenhielm, Aragon—finish with a time of 13:14.82 for seventh place; their ‘C’ team—Gonzalez, Volner, Steiger, Smithstanza—finished eighth at 13:35.38.

The meets featured strong competition from other universities including Gonzaga and USC.
