Santa Clara women’s tennis defeats Montana State with strong performances in Boise

Three members of the Santa Clara women’s tennis team secured victories in both their singles and doubles matches, leading the Broncos to a 6-1 win over Montana State in a neutral site contest at the Boas Indoor Tennis Center in Boise, Idaho, on Saturday. Lizanne Boyer, Ashley Katz, and Anna Rahman each contributed wins in both disciplines, with Rahman clinching the overall team victory.

Santa Clara (now 1-1 for the season) claimed its first win by securing the doubles point and following up with five consecutive singles match victories. In doubles play, Boyer and Rahman defeated Angel Bean and Nia Gelashvili 6-3 on court two. The doubles point was decided when Tian Yu Dong and Katz overcame Terezie Stverakova and Anna Wise 7-6 (7-5) on court one.

Montana State (now 3-3) earned its only point when A. Bean beat Dong on court three at the start of singles play. The Broncos then won all remaining singles matches. Daniella Dimitrova opened with a win atop the lineup to give Santa Clara a 2-1 lead. On court five, Katz extended the advantage to 3-1 before Rahman secured the team victory on court four with a 7-5, 6-4 result against Stverakova.

Boyer, who recently transferred from Texas A&M as a mid-year enrollee, made her debut for Santa Clara by winning both her doubles and singles matches. On court two in singles play, she saved several match points to defeat Wise in three sets: 6-2, 2-6, 7-6 (7-5).

6. Juliette Krumholz (Santa Clara) def. Lola Bean (Montana State) 6-3, 2-6, 6-4

Doubles competition:
1. Tian Yu Dong/Ashley Katz (Santa Clara) def. Terezie Stverakova/Anna Wise (Montana State) 7–6(7–5)
2. Lizanne Boyer/Anna Rahman (Santa Clara) def. Angel Bean/Nia Gelashvili (Montana State), 6–3
3. Lola Bean/Kavya Khirwar (Montana State) vs Daniella Dimitrova/Madhu Satishbabu (Santa Clara), 5–6 unfinished

The order of finish was: Doubles—courts two then one; Singles—courts three through six.

Looking ahead, Santa Clara is scheduled to face Boise State on Sunday at 10 a.m PT.
