Santa Clara University’s women’s basketball team secured a decisive 76-45 win over Wyoming at the Leavey Center on Friday night. The Broncos improved their season record to 3-1, while Wyoming dropped to 1-3.
Both teams had a slow start, with Wyoming holding an early 11-8 lead late in the first quarter. Santa Clara responded by scoring the final eight points of the period to take a 16-11 advantage into the second quarter. The Broncos extended their momentum with an 18-point run to open the second quarter, ultimately building a 26-0 run that spanned more than 11 minutes. Wyoming managed only one basket in the period, and Santa Clara led 34-14 at halftime.
Wyoming reduced the deficit to 15 points twice in the third quarter, but Santa Clara answered with another strong offensive push. A 14-point streak and an overall 18-2 run put the Broncos ahead 60-29 going into the final period. Santa Clara continued to dominate, stretching their lead to as much as 35 points in the fourth quarter.
Santa Clara shot 42.1 percent from the field and made six three-pointers out of twenty attempts. Sophie Glancey and Ava Schmidt each scored 13 points for Santa Clara. Freshmen Tyler Gildersleeve-Stiles (11 points and a career-high ten rebounds) and Delainey Miller (ten points, tying her career high, and ten rebounds) both recorded double-doubles. Glancey was close behind with nine rebounds and also contributed five blocks, just one shy of her career best for a second consecutive game.
Ashley Hawkins led all players with eight assists, her season high. Glancey reached a milestone during the game by surpassing 1,500 career collegiate points with a basket early in the third quarter.
Wyoming finished shooting just under 36 percent from the floor and converted four three-pointers on seventeen attempts. Malene Pederson led Wyoming scorers with sixteen points; Madi Symons added eight points and Lana Beslic grabbed eight rebounds.
Santa Clara dominated rebounding with a fifty-to-thirty-two edge overall and nineteen offensive boards compared to four for Wyoming. This advantage translated into fifteen second-chance points for Santa Clara against two for Wyoming. The Broncos’ bench also outperformed Wyoming’s reserves by a margin of thirty-five to fourteen, while Santa Clara held a fifty-two to twenty-two lead in points in the paint.
