Santa Clara University’s women’s basketball team secured a decisive 93-59 win over Seattle University on Thursday, marking their fourth consecutive road victory. The Broncos improved their season record to 17-5 overall and 7-2 in the West Coast Conference (WCC), while the Redhawks fell to 5-14 overall and 1-7 in conference play.
The game began with Santa Clara trailing early, but after falling behind 11-5, the Broncos responded with a 13-0 run to close out the first quarter. Delainey Miller contributed eight points during this stretch, helping her team take an 18-11 lead at the end of the period.
Santa Clara continued to build momentum in the second quarter, using two separate seven-point runs to extend their advantage. By halftime, they led Seattle by a score of 43-25.
In the third quarter, Santa Clara increased its lead further with a 10-0 run and finished the period ahead by 27 points after Ashley Hawkins hit a three-pointer. The Broncos scored their highest total in any quarter during the final period with 28 points.
Delainey Miller had a standout performance for Santa Clara, setting career highs with 19 points, seven field goals made on twelve attempts, and nine rebounds—just missing a double-double. Four other players also reached double figures: Ava Schmidt and Ashley Hawkins each scored 26 points; Hawkins added five rebounds and four assists while Schmidt grabbed five boards. Kylee Fox contributed fifteen points including three three-pointers, and Alana Goodchild provided eleven points off the bench in just five minutes of play.
Santa Clara shot nearly forty-four percent from the field and made thirteen shots from beyond the arc out of thirty-seven attempts. They dominated rebounding with fifty-four total boards compared to Seattle’s thirty-five—including twenty offensive rebounds—and recorded thirty-eight bench points as well as twenty-two fast break points.
Seattle was held to under thirty-four percent shooting from the field and only converted three of nineteen attempts from long range. Ella Brubaker led Seattle scorers with sixteen points; Andjela Bigovic added thirteen along with six rebounds; Chloe Manga chipped in eleven points and five rebounds.
The Broncos’ current record marks their best start since the program’s 2000–01 season when they began at eighteen wins and five losses before earning an invitation to participate in the Women’s National Invitation Tournament (WNIT).
Following this victory, Santa Clara will return home to host Washington State next Thursday at six p.m.
