Santa Clara University’s women’s volleyball team saw its seven-game winning streak come to an end after a three-set loss to Pepperdine on Saturday in Malibu, California. With this defeat, the Broncos are now tied for fourth place in the West Coast Conference (WCC) standings, with four games left in the regular season.
The match began with Santa Clara (15-10 overall, 10-4 WCC) taking an early 5-2 lead in the first set. However, Pepperdine responded by scoring four consecutive points and eventually claimed eight of the final nine points to win the set 25-17.
In the second set, Pepperdine (18-7 overall, 12-2 WCC) opened with three straight points and later extended their advantage by taking five consecutive points for a 19-7 lead. The Waves closed out the set by scoring eight straight points for a 25-10 result.
Pepperdine continued its momentum into the third set by starting with nine unanswered points and capturing 12 of the first 13. The Broncos could not overcome this deficit and lost the final set 25-8.
Santa Clara now has a record of 33 wins and 55 losses all-time against Pepperdine, having dropped 15 of their last 16 meetings.
Macy Hinshaw recorded 18 assists during the match, maintaining her streak of double-digit assists for a 25th consecutive game.
Next up, Santa Clara will travel to Corvallis to play Oregon State on Thursday, November 20 at 6 p.m. Pacific Time.
