Santa Clara softball defeated Oregon State 11-1 on April 3, securing a West Coast Conference series win. The game ended in five innings under the run-rule, with Ellison Schroeder pitching a complete game.
The result highlights Santa Clara’s strong offensive performance and dominant pitching. The Broncos collected 11 hits and stole six bases, demonstrating their depth across the lineup.
Robynn Balmediano led the team with three runs batted in, while Hazyl Gray added two RBIs. Taryn Clements recorded three hits. Eight different Broncos had at least one hit during the game. In the second inning, Balmediano started the scoring with a two-RBI double off Oregon State starter Bailey Murray. Oregon State responded in the third inning when Tristian Thompson drove in a run to make it 2-1, but Santa Clara quickly took control.
The Broncos scored six runs in the third inning and three more in the fourth, using aggressive base running that included two successful double steals involving Rebecca Rubio and Claire Krotine first, then Cairah Curran and Rubio again later. Gray and Clements each singled to drive home additional runs for Santa Clara’s final tally.
Schroeder allowed one run on six hits while walking two batters and striking out four for her fourth complete game of the season and eighth win overall. For Oregon State, Thompson went two-for-three at bat with an RBI; Madison Weir also had multiple hits.
Santa Clara will close out its series against Oregon State on Saturday at 1 p.m.
