Santa Clara University’s softball team secured a three-game sweep over San Diego with a 5-3 comeback victory on April 11 at SCU Softball Stadium.
The Broncos overcame an early deficit for the third consecutive game, marking their first West Coast Conference sweep since last season and extending their winning streak against the Toreros to seven games. The win improves Santa Clara’s record to 22-19 overall and 7-2 in conference play.
San Diego took an early lead, scoring three runs in the first inning after two outs. Hazyl Gray started for Santa Clara but was relieved by Cari Ferguson, Avery Seva, and Ellison Schroeder, who combined to hold San Diego scoreless over the final six and one-third innings. “Clements came through with a two-run single to give Santa Clara their first lead of the game,” according to the team’s announcement.
Key offensive contributions included Taryn Clements reaching base in all four plate appearances and driving in two crucial runs in the sixth inning. Cairah Curran added an RBI single earlier in the game while Curran and Rebecca Rubio each scored twice. Schroeder pitched the final three-and-a-third innings to earn her second win of the series and tenth of the year.
Looking ahead, Santa Clara will play a three-game series at Pacific starting Friday. The team encouraged fans to follow updates on its social media channels.
