Santa Clara men’s soccer goalkeeper Jackson Ozburn has been named the West Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week. Ozburn earned the recognition after a shutout and eight saves over two games last week.
In Sunday’s match against Sacramento State, Ozburn made three saves to help secure a 3-0 win for the Broncos. One key moment came in the first half when he deflected a shot from Zac Giles off the post, keeping Santa Clara ahead 1-0. This was Ozburn’s first shutout of the season and the second of his college career.
Earlier in the week, Ozburn recorded a season-high five saves during a 2-1 loss to No. 4 Stanford. Santa Clara led that game 1-0 at halftime.
Ozburn, a senior standing 6-foot-3, currently holds a record of 1-1-2 with a goals-against average of 1.00 this season.
“This is the first conference Player of the Week honor for Ozburn.”
The Broncos are scheduled to play their next game at San Diego State on Friday.
