The Santa Clara University men’s track team recorded several strong performances on March 28 at the West Coast Relays held at Veteran’s Memorial Stadium in Clovis, California. The Broncos achieved a win in the steeplechase, a one-two finish, and multiple top-five placements across distance events.
The results highlight a successful outing for Santa Clara athletes as they continue their outdoor season. These performances are important as they show the team’s depth and competitiveness in regional meets.
Eric Ortega-Gammill led the way for Santa Clara with a victory in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing first with a time of 9 minutes, 21.81 seconds. This marked his second win of the outdoor season after an earlier victory at the Golden Gate Track Fest in San Francisco. Jack Tobin finished second in the same event with a time of 9:24.68, while McCoy Brooks took fourth place at 9:40.79.
In the 1,500 meters, Jack Tolbert placed second (3:45.98) and Liam Papavasiliou finished third (3:46.68), giving Santa Clara two runners near the front of that race as well. Antonio Camacho-Bucks added to this result by finishing fifth (3:51.24). Additional Bronco runners competed across various heats and sections of both middle- and long-distance events throughout the meet.
Connor Rickey was among those competing in shorter distances; he ran 1:53.65 to finish thirteenth overall and second in his heat for the 800 meters event.
Looking ahead, Santa Clara will send runners to three different meets next week: The Brutus Hamilton Invitational in Berkeley, Mike Fanelli Track Classic in San Francisco, and Stanford Invitational—all scheduled for Friday and Saturday.
