Santa Clara men’s tennis defeated Pacific 4-0 on April 2, continuing their undefeated run in West Coast Conference play and extending their win streak to 12 matches at the Degheri Tennis Center. The Broncos now hold a record of 16-2 overall and are 3-0 in league competition.
The result keeps Santa Clara atop the conference standings as they look to maintain momentum during the season. Their performance also marks the fourth time in five matches that the team has not lost a singles match.
Santa Clara dominated from the start, winning the first two doubles matches to secure the team point. John Kim and Valentin Faure earned victories in both doubles and singles. No. 49 Luca Bluett and Kim won against Jonty Giesen and Nico Rating with a score of 6-4 on court one, while Faure and Ferran Redza clinched another doubles win over Terence Das and Niv Zuckerman by the same margin on court three.
In singles play, Kim stretched his individual win streak to ten matches by defeating Das 6-1, 6-2 on court three for Santa Clara’s first singles point. Luca Lemaitre followed with a straight-set victory over Christof Schaertlin (6-1, 6-1) on court two, pushing Santa Clara’s lead to three points. The match was clinched by Faure with a win against Reuben De Klerk (6-3, 6-1) on court five.
Other singles contests were unfinished but saw Santa Clara players leading when play stopped. The order of finish was doubles courts one and three followed by singles courts three, two, then five.
Looking ahead, Santa Clara is set to host Saint Mary’s at the Degheri Tennis Center this Saturday with first serve scheduled for 1 p.m.
