Santa Clara men’s track sets multiple records at UW Preview

The Santa Clara University men’s track team achieved several record-setting performances in the 3,000-meter event during its season opener at the UW Preview, held at the Dempsey Indoor Facility in Seattle on January 17. The team secured three top-10 all-time marks and three top-10 finishes.

Jack Tolbert finished second in his heat of the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:05.25, missing first place by one hundredth of a second. This result is now the fourth-fastest time in program history. Kyle Berg placed fourth overall with a time of 8:12.13, which ranks as the sixth-best mark for Santa Clara. Liam Papavasiliou finished eighth in both Friday’s race and in the Broncos’ all-time list with a time of 8:15.90.

Papavasiliou and Berg also competed in the mile event, finishing 23rd (4:14.71) and 25th (4:15.91), respectively. Antonio Camacho-Bucks finished 31st with a time of 4:17.26.

In the 1,000 meters, Connor Rickey led Santa Clara by placing 15th with a time of 2:32.02, followed by Coen Strub who finished 18th at 2:34.63.

The Broncos are scheduled to return to Seattle for the UW Invitational and “Mile City” event on January 30 and 31.
