The Santa Clara men’s tennis team began its 2025-26 spring season with a 4-1 victory over UC Davis on Saturday at the Marya Welch Tennis Center in Davis, California. The Broncos secured the doubles point and went on to win three of four singles matches.
Lukas Maskow clinched the match for Santa Clara, while Luca Bluett contributed wins in both his doubles and singles contests. The doubles point was won by Tiago Boschmans and newcomer Ferran Redza on court three, as well as Bluett and John Kim on court one. The Bluett/Kim pair had recently made history with their appearance in the NCAA Tournament last November, marking the first such achievement for the men’s tennis program. They were challenged by Ivan Savkin and Kaveh Taheri but ultimately prevailed 7-6 (7-3) to secure the doubles point for Santa Clara.
UC Davis earned its only singles point when Lucas Bollinger defeated Alexander Watanabe Eriksson 6-0, 6-0 at the top of the lineup. Santa Clara responded with consecutive singles victories from Valentin Faure on court five, Bluett on court six, and Maskow on court four, who overcame Savkin in three sets (2-6, 6-3, 6-2).
The match ended with a final score of Santa Clara 4, UC Davis 1.
Santa Clara will next face San Diego State at home on Sunday, January 18 at 11 a.m. PT.
