Santa Clara men’s tennis exits ITA Regionals after quarterfinal finishes

Santa Clara University’s men’s tennis team concluded its participation in the ITA Regional Championships on Sunday, with two players reaching the singles quarterfinals and two doubles teams advancing to the same stage at the Eve Zimmerman Tennis Center in Stockton, California.

Luca Bluett secured a spot in the singles quarterfinals after defeating Stanford’s Alexander Razeghi in three sets, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4. He joined teammate Alexander Watanabe Eriksson in the quarterfinal round. However, both players were eliminated at that stage. Bluett lost to Oregon’s Vlad Breazu 7-6 (7-5), 2-6, 6-4, while Watanabe Eriksson was defeated by Cal’s Fryderyk Wasiutynski 6-2, 7-6 (7-2).

In doubles competition, Bluett paired with John Kim but fell to Washington’s Brett Pearson and Soham Purohit 8-2. Watanabe Eriksson teamed up with Tiago Boschmans and lost to Razeghi and Alex Chang of Stanford 8-4.

Mahir Khurana and Lukas Maskow each recorded additional singles victories during consolation matches. Over four days of tournament play, Santa Clara won a total of 20 matches—14 in singles and six in doubles.

The next event for Santa Clara men’s tennis is the Pacific Hidden Dual scheduled from October 31 to November 2.
