Santa Clara men’s tennis ends Battle in the Bay Classic with singles victories

Santa Clara University’s men’s tennis team wrapped up its participation at the Battle in the Bay Classic, held at the California Tennis Club in San Francisco on September 13 and 14, 2025. Players Alexander Watanabe Eriksson and John Kim represented the Broncos in singles matches during the tournament.

Both Watanabe Eriksson and Kim recorded a singles win each. On Saturday, Watanabe Eriksson was leading Cal’s Paris Pouatcha 3-0 in the first set when Pouatcha retired from the match. Sunday saw Kim secure a straight-set victory over Filip Soderqvist of Boise State with scores of 6-3, 6-2.

Other results included Maximus Dussault of TCU defeating Kim 6-3, 7-6 (7-4), while Aleksa Pisaric from Pepperdine overcame Watanabe Eriksson after three sets: 2-6, 6-2, 6-2. In another match on Sunday, Avery Tallakson of Boise State defeated Watanabe Eriksson by scores of 3-6, 6-3, and a final set tiebreaker.

The Broncos are scheduled to compete next at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma starting Saturday, September 20.
