Santa Clara University’s men’s golf team began its spring season at the N.I.T. tournament hosted by Arizona, finishing in 10th place with a total score of 2-under par (289-291-282–862) over two days at the Omni National Tucson Resort.
J.P. Odland led Santa Clara individually, tying for 30th with a 3-under 213 after rounds of 74, 68, and 71. “Odland, who was recently named to the WCC’s Preseason All-Conference team, tallied 13 total birdies over the three rounds. After starting things off with a 2-over 74, the Tiburon, Calif., product bounced back with a 4-under 68 in the second round that featured six birdies, and closed the event with a 1-under 71 in Tuesday’s final round.” The performance moved him into third place on Santa Clara’s all-time list for career rounds under par with 45.
Matt Robles finished at 1-under par (215), tying for 37th place and making an eagle on the par-five No.10 hole in his opening round. His best effort came in the final round where he posted a two-under-par score of 70.
Senior Calder Overfelt also recorded two rounds under par and tied for 45th at one-over (217). Overfelt now ranks fourth in school history for career rounds under par with a total of 41.
Kevin Hollomon finished tied for 54th (220), while Tyler Gerace was tied for 61st (223). Both shot one-under-par scores during their final rounds.
The overall team competition saw No.5 Texas narrowly beat host No.30 Arizona by one stroke to win the event at a combined score of -41 (823). Arizona’s Filip Jakubcik won individual medalist honors at -14 (202).
Santa Clara will next compete from February 12-14 at the John Burns Intercollegiate in Hawaii.
