The Santa Clara University men’s cross country team secured a fifth-place finish at the Kim Duyst Twilight meet, held Saturday at River Oaks Golf Course in Ceres, California. This marks the team’s second consecutive top-five result this season.
Kyle Berg led the Broncos with a 13th-place individual finish, completing the 8-kilometer course in 24 minutes and 8.6 seconds. Freshman Zafer Courcelle followed closely behind, placing 19th with a time of 24:24.8.
The rest of Santa Clara’s top runners finished within a tight window of 16 seconds. Freshmen Will Carroll and Jack Kyle placed 44th and 49th respectively, while seniors Daniel Trampe and Daniel Vaca finished back-to-back in 58th and 59th place. Underclassmen Kaden Helder and Inbaa Chennai rounded out the team’s top-eight in 62nd and 63rd positions.
Santa Clara improved on its performance from two weeks prior by finishing ahead of West Coast Conference rival San Francisco, which came in tenth place at this meet. The Broncos also surpassed NCAA Division I teams CSUN (sixth), Sacramento State (eighth), Nevada (ninth), as well as Division II West Region No. 6-ranked Stanislaus State, who hosted the event and finished seventh.
The team will now have a two-week break before splitting up for two meets on October 3: the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational hosted by Loyola Chicago University in Chicago, and the Pacific Invitational hosted by WCC member Tigers in Lodi, California.
