Santa Clara men’s golf team will have a strong presence at the 125th U.S. Amateur Championship in August. Alvaro Muller, J.P. Odland, and Matt Robles secured their spots after achieving top positions at the Ruby Hill qualifying event on July 14.
The trio will be joined by Kevin Hollomon, a new transfer from Colgate, who earned his place last summer by winning the 121st NCGA Amateur Championship. Hollomon’s victory came against future teammate J.P. Odland in a playoff.
The championship will take place at the Olympic Club in San Francisco from August 11 to 17.
At Ruby Hill, 47 players competed for one of the 11 guaranteed spots in the U.S. Amateur. Robles and Muller tied for fifth with scores of 4-under 68, while Odland finished in a six-way tie for eighth with a score of 3-under 69 and secured his spot through a playoff.
This marks Odland’s second appearance at the U.S. Amateur; he first participated in 2023 before starting his freshman year. Santa Clara has consistently had representation in this event over recent years.
