Santa Clara University’s women’s volleyball team lost in three sets to Oregon State on Thursday in Corvallis, Oregon. The defeat drops the Broncos to fifth place in the West Coast Conference standings with three games left in the regular season.
Oregon State began the first set with a 7-3 lead, but Santa Clara answered with three consecutive points, tying the score after a kill from Layla Truitt. Despite several rallies by Santa Clara, Oregon State secured the first set 25-23. In the second set, Oregon State took an early advantage and maintained control, winning 25-16 despite efforts from Santa Clara that included an ace from Selin Aslayan. The third set saw both teams trading points until Oregon State pulled ahead for a 25-20 win, ending the match.
Layla Truitt led Santa Clara with 10 kills, marking her 18th double-digit kill game of the season. Cate Shanahan contributed nine kills and eight digs, coming close to matching Truitt’s total for double-figure games this year. Lexi Trapani recorded 15 digs for her 22nd game this season reaching double digits in that category. Macy Hinshaw finished with 34 assists and nine digs—one dig short of her twelfth double-double of the season.
The Broncos now have a record of six wins and six losses against Oregon State overall.
Santa Clara will return home to play conference leader San Diego on Saturday at 1 p.m.
