The Santa Clara University beach volleyball team secured a 3-2 victory over San Jose State on April 7, celebrating seniors Alex Franklin and Hayley Hahn at the Santa Clara Beach Volleyball Courts.
Franklin and Hahn were honored before the match for their contributions to the program. Franklin joined the Broncos in 2025 after earning all-Coast Conference honors twice at West Valley College and qualifying for the CCCAA State Championships. Hahn has competed in 21 career matches, winning eight times over three seasons on the beach after starting her collegiate career with the indoor team.
San Jose State began by winning an exhibition match, as Jordan Hickerson and Aubrey McBride edged out Franklin and Hahn in three sets. The Spartans then took an early lead with a win at No. 3 doubles, but Santa Clara responded at No. 4 when Ciara Cantlen and Alexandra Urbina claimed victory in three sets.
The Broncos gained momentum as Teagan Wilson and Sammy Wood delivered a straight-set win at No. 2 doubles. Avery Cukjati and Sadie Snipes clinched the overall dual for Santa Clara with another straight-set victory at No. 1 doubles against Isabella Martinez and Mia Scheepens.
San Jose State added their final point with a win at No. 5 doubles, but it was not enough to overcome Santa Clara’s lead.
Looking ahead, Santa Clara is scheduled to travel to Hawaii for five matches over three days starting Friday at King’s Beach in Waikiki.
