Santa Clara University’s baseball team challenged No. 14/10 Oklahoma in the final game of their series on Sunday, ultimately falling 8-6 at Kimrey Family Stadium in Norman, Oklahoma.

Tate Medicoff led Santa Clara’s offense with a strong performance, going 2 for 4 at the plate and driving in five runs. Medicoff hit his first home run of the season in the second inning to bring Santa Clara within one run after Oklahoma took an early lead. He later tied the game at 4-4 with a two-run double in the fourth inning.

In that fourth inning, Max Ross and Luke Devine were both hit by pitches to start things off. Will Anderson followed with a bunt single to load the bases before Medicoff’s double drove in two runs.

Oklahoma responded with three runs in the fifth inning, using an RBI triple and two doubles to regain control. Santa Clara narrowed the gap again in the eighth when Ross was hit by another pitch and Devine singled. Anderson walked to load the bases, Medicoff brought home his fifth RBI on a fielder’s choice, and Waylon Walsh singled up the middle for another run.

Devine finished with two hits and scored twice for Santa Clara. Anderson contributed a hit and a walk as well. The Broncos drew three walks during the game and were hit by pitches five times.

Oklahoma added another run on a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning. In their last chance during the ninth, Santa Clara put two runners on base through a single and an error but could not score as Oklahoma turned a double play to end it.

Santa Clara now returns home for a five-game stretch starting Tuesday against Pittsburgh from the ACC conference. Ticket information and live coverage links are available at SantaClaraBroncos.com.
