Rep. Ro Khanna, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing California’s 17th district since 2017, used his Twitter platform to voice concerns on various issues of national interest on April 29, 2025.
In a tweet at 18:14 UTC, Khanna addressed concerns regarding the defense budget. He noted that Republicans are considering an increase of $150 billion to surpass $1 trillion, without addressing issues such as cost-plus contracts and overruns associated with the F-35 program. He urged, “Any member who cares about deficits and fiscal responsibility should vote no.”
Later at 20:47 UTC, Rep. Khanna expressed support for educators, highlighting a sit-in by hundreds of California school board members at the Capitol steps. Emphasizing the importance of education, he stated, “Our educators are some of our nation’s greatest heroes.” He further stressed that public education is non-partisan and of utmost importance to maintain funding.
At 22:12 UTC, Rep. Khanna drew attention to the price of boneless chicken breast which reached $4.16 per pound, equaling previous peaks in 2022-23. He attributed this price surge to the impact of tariffs established under the Trump administration. Khanna mentioned, “Trump’s tariffs on feed and imported goods will increase production costs for farmers, leading to continued price spikes.”
Alongside his congressional role, Ro Khanna, age 46, born in Philadelphia and residing in Fremont, holds educational credentials from the University of Chicago and Yale University.
