Rep. Ro Khanna, who has been serving as the U.S. Representative for California’s 17th District since 2017, recently shared his thoughts and activities via Twitter. In a series of tweets, he addressed economic discussions and industry closures, emphasizing the impact on workers.
On May 1, 2025, Rep. Khanna invited his followers to join him for a live discussion on Twitch. He stated, “I’m live right now on Twitch with @imreallyimprtnt, @hutchinson, and @PiscoLitty discussing how we can build a new economic patriotism.” He encouraged participation and questions from his audience, providing a link for access to the event.
The following day, Khanna tweeted about significant layoffs occurring in the industrial sector. He noted, “The largest closure was at Brown-Forman Cooperage in Louisville, Kentucky, where 210 workers were fired after the barrel-making factory permanently shut its doors.” This closure marks a substantial event in the region’s economic landscape, affecting numerous workers’ lives.
Additionally, on the same date, Khanna highlighted layoffs at John Deere, the tractor manufacturer, stating, “In Ankeny, Iowa, tractor manufacturer John Deere continued mass layoffs, firing 72 more employees.” The tweet referenced the company’s concerns over the effects of tariffs imposed during the Trump administration, impacting production and the broader agricultural industry.
Khanna, born in Philadelphia and a graduate of the University of Chicago and Yale University, currently resides in Fremont, California.
