Rep. Ro Khanna, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing California’s 17th district, shared a series of tweets on June 18, 2025, addressing recent job losses across various states due to plant closures.
In Simpsonville, South Carolina, “60 packaging workers in Simpsonville, South Carolina, were let go after Hood Container closed its plant.” This tweet highlights the impact of the closure on local employment.
Similarly, in Chillicothe, Ohio, “826 paper mill jobs were lost in Chillicothe, Ohio, following the closure of Pixelle Specialty Solutions.” The tweet underscores significant job losses affecting the community.
Additionally, Khanna noted that “189 workers in St. Paul, Minnesota, were hit by the closure of Smurfit WestRock’s packaging facility.” This reflects another instance where a plant shutdown has led to substantial unemployment.
Ro Khanna has served in Congress since 2017 and resides in Fremont. He was born in Philadelphia and holds degrees from the University of Chicago and Yale University.
