U.S. Representative Ro Khanna, who represents California’s 17th district in Congress, posted on his social media account about recent layoffs at manufacturing facilities across several states.
On August 15, 2025, Khanna reported that “Packaging manufacturer Pratt Industries laid off 53 workers at its Livonia, Michigan, facility.” On the same day, he noted job losses in Washington state: “In Wapato and Yakima, Washington, 51 manufacturing jobs were lost as Del Monte Foods began to shutter two food manufacturing facilities.” He also highlighted a round of layoffs in North Carolina: “73 jobs were cut in Siler City, North Carolina, as semiconductor manufacturer Wolfspeed conducted mass layoffs.
Producing American-made semi-conductors should be a top priority. We need to pass more investments like my CHIPS and Science Act that guide the U.S. into manufacturing”
Khanna has served as the representative for California’s 17th District since 2017 after succeeding Mike Honda. Born in Philadelphia in 1976 and currently residing in Fremont, Khanna holds degrees from the University of Chicago and Yale University.
The congressman has been an advocate for strengthening domestic manufacturing and was a sponsor of the CHIPS and Science Act aimed at supporting American semiconductor production.
