Rep. Ro Khanna, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing California’s 17th district, recently highlighted a series of job losses across different industries in the United States through his social media platform. The posts provide insight into economic shifts and corporate decisions affecting local employment.
On May 9, 2025, Rep. Khanna reported that “57 people lost their jobs in Louisville, Kentucky, when whiskey producer Diageo North America Stitzel-Weller Distillery closed and relocated operations to other U.S. locations.” This closure is part of a broader trend where companies are consolidating operations to optimize resources.
In another post on the same day, he mentioned that “In Sunnyvale, California, medical device manufacturer Boston Scientific Corporation closed, cutting 63 jobs. The company plans to expand its operations in Minnesota.” This indicates a strategic shift by Boston Scientific Corporation towards expanding its presence in Minnesota while reducing its footprint in California.
Additionally, Rep. Khanna noted that “Bourbon producer Speyside Bourbon Cooperage cut 75 jobs after closing its Atkins, Virginia, location.” This decision reflects ongoing changes within the bourbon production industry and its impact on local employment.
Ro Khanna has been serving as a U.S. Congressman since replacing Mike Honda in 2017. Born in Philadelphia in 1976 and now residing in Fremont, he holds degrees from the University of Chicago and Yale University.
