Rep. Ro Khanna, who represents California’s 17th District in the U.S. Congress, recently posted a series of tweets addressing economic issues related to food prices and legislation tackling non-consensual intimate imagery. Khanna, who has served in Congress since 2017 after replacing Mike Honda, shared his insights on social media on April 29 and April 30, 2025.
In a tweet on April 29, 2025, Khanna noted the significant rise in prices for ground beef, stating, “Prices for ground beef have surged to an all-time high of $5.79 per pound, a staggering 46% jump since January 2021. Trump and Vance’s trade war with Canada and Mexico and weakened food safety oversight risk driving meat costs even higher.”
On the same day, he highlighted the increased cost of avocados with a tweet saying, “A single avocado has hit $2.28. This is a 77% increase since the start of the second Trump administration.”
Turning to legislative matters, Khanna discussed the passage of the Take It Down Act in a tweet on April 30, 2025, which he described as “common sense legislation that prioritizes public safety and protects Americans from the harms of non-consensual intimate imagery.” He expressed pride in working alongside Senator Ted Cruz and the First Lady on the initiative and its successful passage through Congress.
Ro Khanna was born in Philadelphia in 1976 and currently resides in Fremont. An alumnus of the University of Chicago and Yale University, Khanna has been actively involved in economic and legislative matters during his tenure.
