U.S. Representative Ro Khanna, who has served California’s 17th district in Congress since 2017, posted a series of tweets on August 8, 2025, highlighting recent layoffs affecting American workers in Iowa.
In one tweet, Khanna stated, “Lennox Industries, a heating and air conditioning manufacturer and one of the oldest employers in Marshalltown, Iowa, laid off 62 workers at its factory.” (August 8, 2025)
He also reported on another layoff event: “250 Workers were left without a job when appliance manufacturer, Whirlpool, administered a mass layoff at its plant in Amana, Iowa.” (August 8, 2025)
Summing up the impact for the week, Khanna added: “This past week, 748 American workers lost their jobs when three factories closed and two companies conducted a mass layoff.” (August 8, 2025)
Khanna was born in Philadelphia in 1976 and currently resides in Fremont. He holds degrees from the University of Chicago and Yale University. Since replacing Mike Honda in Congress in 2017, he has represented California’s Silicon Valley region.
