Representative Ro Khanna, who serves California’s 17th district in the U.S. Congress, highlighted recent job losses in American manufacturing through a series of posts on August 1, 2025.
In one post, Khanna stated, “This week alone, 228 hard-working Americans lost their jobs when one factory closed and two administered mass layoffs.” (August 1, 2025). He continued to address broader trends affecting the sector by writing, “Decades of attacks on American manufacturing have made good-paying factory jobs a thing of the past for many communities that relied on them.” (August 1, 2025).
Khanna also drew attention to a specific case involving Panera Bread: “In a shift to third-party bakeries, Panera shut down operations at its Romulus, Michigan, fresh dough facility, cutting 66 jobs.” (August 1, 2025).
Ro Khanna has represented California’s 17th district since replacing Mike Honda in Congress in 2017. Born in Philadelphia in 1976 and currently residing in Fremont, Khanna holds degrees from the University of Chicago and Yale University.
