U.S. Representative Ro Khanna, who serves California’s 17th district in Congress, recently used his social media platform to highlight the ongoing economic challenges facing American workers and towns as a result of industrial divestment.
On July 25, 2025, Khanna posted, “Years of divestment in America’s industrial heartland continues to devastate towns and workers across the nation.” In a follow-up post on the same day, he cited specific examples of recent layoffs: “167 workers were hit by the shutdown of the AMETEK Bison Gear & Engineering, motor manufacturing facility in St. Charles, Illinois.” He also reported another plant closure: “Stone manufacturer Coronado Stone Products permanently closed its Rialto, California, plant, laying off 39 employees.”
Khanna has represented California’s 17th District since 2017 after succeeding Mike Honda. Born in Philadelphia in 1976 and now residing in Fremont, Khanna holds degrees from the University of Chicago and Yale University. His recent posts draw attention to job losses tied to industrial decline—a persistent issue affecting many communities across the country.
