U.S. Representative Ro Khanna, who serves California’s 17th district in Congress, posted a series of tweets on July 18, 2025, detailing recent factory closures and layoffs that affected hundreds of American workers.
In his first post, Khanna wrote: “This past week, 869 American workers lost their jobs when 5 factories closed, and 1 company conducted mass layoffs.” (July 18, 2025).
He continued by highlighting specific incidents: “74 workers were left without a job when Truvant North America closed its package labeling plant in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin.” (July 18, 2025).
Another tweet referenced the closure of a longstanding business in Massachusetts: “Fitchburg, Massachusetts, known for decades as ‘paper city,’ watched The Newark Group close the town’s last paper plant. 71 hard working Americans lost their jobs.” (July 18, 2025).
Ro Khanna has represented California’s 17th District in the U.S. Congress since replacing Mike Honda in 2017. Born in Philadelphia in 1976 and currently residing in Fremont, Khanna holds degrees from the University of Chicago and Yale University.
