Rep. Ro Khanna, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 17th district since 2017, reported on September 5, 2025, a series of recent manufacturing facility closures across the United States that resulted in hundreds of job losses.
On his official social media account, Khanna stated, “Sonoco, a packaging manufacturer, closed its Santa Fe Springs, California, facility, displacing 46 employees.” (September 5, 2025).
He further posted about another closure: “101 employees were put out of work in Manchester, New Hampshire, when Intervala shut down its electronics assembly plant.” (September 5, 2025).
Additionally, Khanna noted impacts in the southern United States: “In Estill, South Carolina, another mill, Elliott Sawmilling Co., closed permanently, eliminating 170 manufacturing positions.” (September 5, 2025).
Khanna has served as the representative for California’s 17th District since replacing Mike Honda in Congress in 2017. Born in Philadelphia in 1976 and currently residing in Fremont, he holds degrees from the University of Chicago and Yale University.
