Ro Khanna, a member of the U.S. Congress representing California’s 17th district since 2017, shared his views on recent legislative and administrative developments through social media posts. His comments addressed concerns over public land sales, cuts in technology funding, and healthcare coverage.
On May 7, 2025, Rep. Ro Khanna expressed concern about a bill passed by Republicans allowing the sale of public lands. He stated: “At 1 am last night, Republicans passed a bill allowing the sale of public lands. Now, big corporations can buy up our common goods. We cannot allow this to be signed into law.”
In another post on May 8, 2025, Khanna discussed the implications of budget cuts on technology and national security with reference to Dr. Matty, an MIT Ph.D. and Chief AI Officer for Defense appointed during Trump’s administration. Khanna remarked: “Dr. Matty…is Chief AI Officer for Defense…He agreed that the cuts the administration & DOGE are making to NSF and universities like MIT hurt our technology supremacy and national security.”
Later on May 8, Khanna addressed healthcare concerns regarding Medicaid coverage for birthing units in 2024. He highlighted potential financial burdens from proposed cuts and advocated for broader healthcare reform: “In 2024, Medicaid covered nearly 37% of patients in birthing units…It’s time to do more and pass Medicare for All…”
Ro Khanna has been actively serving in Congress since replacing Mike Honda in 2017. Born in Philadelphia in 1976 and now residing in Fremont, he is an alumnus of the University of Chicago (BA) and Yale University (JD).
