Ro Khanna, a U.S. Congressman representing California’s 17th district since 2017, has been vocal about various issues through his social media presence. Born in Philadelphia in 1976 and currently residing in Fremont, Khanna has a BA from the University of Chicago and a JD from Yale University.
On July 3, 2025, Rep. Ro Khanna expressed concerns over legislation affecting low-income families, emphasizing its detrimental impact on children’s welfare. “The bill creates a poverty trap for low-income families, depriving them of healthcare and food security. This hurts America’s children. We are mortgaging their future for tax breaks for the billionaires.”
The following day, on July 4, he reflected on American values during Independence Day celebrations. He shared his pride in the nation and optimism about its future as a diverse democracy: “Today on the Fourth of July, we celebrate our nation’s extraordinary principles and those who sacrificed for them. I am deeply proud of being an American and believe we will be in the first cohesive multiracial democracy in the world.”
Later that same day, Khanna highlighted job losses at Cleveland-Cliffs due to mass layoffs at facilities in Pennsylvania and Illinois. These events underscore challenges facing vital industries within local communities: “947 jobs disappeared when iron and steel manufacturer Cleveland-Cliffs initiated mass layoffs at three facilities in Pennsylvania and Illinois.
This was one of only three rail producers in the U.S. and a vital part of the local community.”
