Rep. Ro Khanna, currently serving California’s 17th district in the U.S. Congress, has been vocal about his legislative priorities and criticisms of current policies on Twitter. Through a series of tweets shared on April 23, 2025, Khanna outlined issues ranging from student loan debts to pharmaceutical lobbying.
In a tweet at 13:58 UTC, Khanna expressed his opposition to the impending resumption of student loan payments, stating, “Trump is going to make you pay student loans starting in May. I’m fighting to cancel student loan debt.”
Later that day, in another tweet posted at 15:57 UTC, he highlighted the public’s support for higher corporate and wealth tax rates. He criticized the Trump administration’s intentions to decrease Medicaid and increase tax breaks for billionaires: “More than 50% of Americans are in favor of higher tax rates for corporations and the ultra-wealthy. Yet the Trump administration plans to cut Medicaid and give bigger tax breaks to billionaires. Congress needs to fight against cuts to Medicaid and public education, and protect.”
In a tweet at 17:53 UTC, Khanna turned his focus to pharmaceutical lobbying, stating, “PhRMA, one of Big Pharma’s largest lobbying groups, spent nearly $13M to influence Congress in Q1 of this year. It’s time we stop allowing Big Pharma to buy power and continue to fleece Americans. We need to pass my Political Reform Plan and ban PAC and lobbyists’ spending.”
Khanna, born in Philadelphia in 1976, earned his BA from the University of Chicago and his JD from Yale University. He has been serving in the U.S. Congress since 2017, following his predecessor Mike Honda.
