U.S. Representative Ro Khanna, who represents California’s 17th district in Congress, posted a series of statements on July 25, 2025, criticizing the nation’s defense spending and highlighting recent job losses in American manufacturing.
On his official account, Khanna wrote, “Instead of spending billions on wars abroad and increasing the bloated Pentagon budget, we need to invest in good jobs at home that will help Americans and improve national security.” (July 25, 2025).
He also detailed his opposition to the most recent defense budget legislation: “I voted no on the $832B in defense budget when I came to the floor and I was one of two members of the House Armed Services Committee to vote no on the NDAA in committee.” (July 25, 2025).
In a separate post from the same day, Khanna highlighted job losses within the U.S. manufacturing sector: “A total of 442 American manufacturing jobs were lost this week when four factories closed and two initiated mass layoffs.” (July 25, 2025).
Khanna has represented California’s 17th district since 2017 after succeeding Mike Honda. Born in Philadelphia in 1976 and currently residing in Fremont, he holds a BA from the University of Chicago and a JD from Yale University.
