Ro Khanna, a U.S. Representative for California’s 17th district, actively engages with issues facing Americans through his legislative pursuits and public statements. On social media, Khanna highlights pressing concerns and proposes legislative solutions. His commentary often addresses healthcare, student loans, and housing policies.
On April 21, 2025, Rep. Khanna shared that “Nearly 31 million Americans reported borrowing money in 2024 to help pay for healthcare.” He emphasized the inequity of this situation, advocating for the implementation of Medicare for All in a nation with substantial resources.
The following day, April 22, 2025, Khanna expressed concerns about student loans, stating that “5.3M borrowers are in default on their federal student loans.” He warned that restarting loan payments might damage credit scores, hampering economic participation unless student loans for working- and middle-class families are forgiven.
Later that same day, Khanna discussed housing affordability, noting “The average age of a first-time homebuyer is at a record high of 38 years old.” He emphasized housing as a fundamental right, calling for legislative measures like his Stop Wall Street Landlords Act to curb corporate landlord practices.
Ro Khanna, who replaced Mike Honda in 2017, has served California’s 17th district in the U.S. Congress since then. A native of Philadelphia, born in 1976, Khanna is an alumnus of the University of Chicago and Yale University, residing in Fremont, California.
